On 14 Feb 1962 Joyce married James Marlis Medlock in Illinois. James was born at Oelwein, IA, the son of Ernest and Nora (Kelley) Medlock. His siblings were: Jewell, Maxine, Wilford (killed in the service in 1944 in Italy) and twins born and died the same day in 1929. James' first marriage was to Jean Dean in Aug 1952. Jean was the adopted daughter of Grover and Josephine Davis. James and Jean’s only child was Jimmy Lee Medlock. Joyce and James had 2 daughters: June Norine and Jodi Lynn. Both girls were born in Decorah. Joyce and James divorced 26 Nov 1976. James died 24 Sep 1993 in Decorah. His funeral and burial was in Oelwein.

June married Jerome Paul Halweg 1 May 1982 at the Decorah Methodist Church. Jerome was born in Winneshiek Co., the son of Paul and Naomi (Snell) Halweg. His siblings are: Alan, Bonnie, Pamela, Paulet, Shelly, Randy and Kevin. June and Jerome have 3 children: Jake Paul, Jay Daniel  and Joreen Elaine - all born at Decorah. June and Jerome live in Decorah. June completed both the Certified Nurse Aide course and Certified Med-Aide course at Northeast Iowa Community College. She worked at the Aase Haugen Home and later the Winneshiek County Care Facility (now Oneota Riverview Care Facility) until Jay was born. She now has a tanning business and does baby-sitting in their home. Jerome works for Bruening Rock Products.

Jodi married Paul Kenneth Holthaus 21 May 1993 at the Decorah Methodist Church. Paul was born at Decorah, the son of Adrian and Donna (Reed) Holthaus. His siblings are: John, Alan, Tom, Ray, Lisa, Dawn, Shari and Theresa. Paul first married Melody Mincks. Paul and Melody had 3 daughters: Melissa, Michele and Amanda. Paul and Melody divorced. Jodi and Paul have 2 children: Jani Lane and Jarret Paul - both born at Decorah. Paul works for Bruening Rock Products. Jodi works part-time with her sister, June, doing baby-sitting.

Joyce’s third marriage was to Lee Edward Stropes 6 Aug 1989 in Illinois. They live at Zero Beach, FLand work in a fruit and vegetable stand in Sebastian, FL.

Mary Lantwird and Bernard Sudtelgte left Munster, Westfalen, Germany in May 1846. Their voyage by ship lasted six weeks. Mary was employed as a cook for the six weeks of the voyage, thus earning her meals.

They landed in Baltimore and went by train to Cincinnati. There, Mary worked in a hotel and Bernard worked in a brickyard. They worked until they had enough money to travel farther west.

They went to Dubuque, by train where a friend, Mr. Becker, lived. In Dubuque, Mary Lantwird worked in a restaurant and Bernard Sudtelgte worked crushing stones for the foundations of the streets. While in Dubuque, Mary and Bernard were married in the cathedral.

Bernard and three of his friends went on a land trip looking for a place to settle. They walked from Dubuque to Twin Springs (near Festina). Bernard and Mary moved to Festina from Dubuque.

Mary and Bernard had six children: Henry, Theodore, August, Kate, Fred and Anna. They had 34 grandchildren.

Mary (Lantwird) Sudtelgte died on 7 Dec 1920 and was buried at Fort Atkinson, IA. Bernard Sudtelgte died on 31 Jul 1898 and was buried at Festina.

Sutton, Jerry and Halley (Wise)

Halley Sue Wise was born, the daughter of Wilbur and Madelyn (Willson) Wise. She grew up on the family farm east of Locust in Pleasant Twp. Halley was active in 4-H while growing up. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1983 and then attended Northeast Iowa Community College, Calmar earning a degree as a registered nurse.
